4 things I learned from 3 months on Apple Cider Vinegar……

So, if you follow me on social media, I pledged to try out the myths of applying apple cider vinegar to one’s life. Many of my patients and friends noted how they drank as a shot, in diluted water, combined with honey and/or fruit and that it had amazing effects. Like any scientist and clinician, I wanted to experiment with it myself. Here’s what I found out.

  1. It tastes like vinegar: I tried my best to get used to the taste, but it’s vinegar. I tried to shoot it like liquor (bad for my acid reflux and apparently for your tooth enamel), dilute it in 8oz of water (still made me shudder due to the vinegary taste). Now, recently, I’ve been doing more fruit-infused water to encourage more water intake. I’ll add a splash of vinegar to that and won’t notice it as much. So, it’s a work in progress. Also, you’re supposed to use a straw when you drink it to avoid damage of tooth enamel, so be careful.
  2. I didn’t lose weight: Play the loser music from The Price is Right here. I was hopeful, but it didn’t work. My male nurse, who is in his 20s, did notice about 10# of weight loss after about a month with it, but he was also cutting back his calories and using other supplements. Oh well. Everyone’s different. Now, I will admit that my tummy seemed a little flatter and I could see more of my feet past it. LOL! A friend asked if I measured my inches before and after, and I should have but didn’t. I might continue it and keep you all up to date on that point.
  3. I had a little more energy: I did notice and was very pleasantly surprised by the little jolt of energy I experienced about an hour after intake. I was able to cut back on my caffeine in the afternoon. That was a welcomed effect! So, I might keep a little in my life for that reason.
  4. It didn’t really work as a bowel cleanse: I don’t think I noticed a change in my bowel habits at all, really. I might have had some increased urination while using it, but they may have also been due to my increased water intake.

So, I won’t discredit all of its proposed effects altogether, but at least I didn’t experience any negative effects, other than the taste. Diluting it definitely helps. All in all, I give it a B-. Try it for yourselves.

  1. Well. I noticed some changes. I use the raw organic vinegar. I use it for energy and not to have the urge for caffeine. Works well when I travel and can’t have the movements I need to get rid of the food that I normally do not eat. Now I have heard of my associates saying the have good changes in their blood pressure and diabetes. Good alternative to probiotics.
    What are your thoughts on probiotics?
